Yes..... Done it again 😡

Quick Gumtree swoop, for SWMBO, as she expressed concern she may end up on her own >> as I'm out on the bike 😱

Super swift 'rattle/tighten/lighten' mission.... Then blast off, away to some nice quiet cycleways πŸš΄πŸ’ž

The original spec tyres have been upgraded, with new inner tubes, 57 - 305 (16 x 2.125) are now fitted. Leotyre 'freestyle'... Philippines.

Dunno if they sold at this price..... 😡
Date label says: 2005.... If so, it's not at all rusty/crappy πŸ˜‹

Have watched the 'repair/maintenance' YouTube on the 90mm rear drum.

Some 'recalibration' has proven necessary....
A large nut had been fitted on the sprocket axle (inside the forks, perhaps as a Cone Locknut) but it caused the rear sprocket to be misaligned with the pedal sprocket = one or two cranks and the chain jumped off 😟

I figured the fault soon enough and stripped the whole backend out, deleted the nut [slapped a stout washer in its place] removed and refitted the BMX style 90mm drum brake assy and then reassembled the lot..... No Chain Issues πŸ‘Œ

Deleted the mudguards + Noddy rear rack.

I'm going to have to do 'something', with the quill/folding hinged clamp.... It is very creaky and not confidence inspiring for a Heavy Workout 🀐.

Meantime, all the brakes are adjusted and work cleanly & sharpish!!

I think we have a winner πŸŽ‰πŸ₯‚

As the pedals are a bit creaky & rattly, I have popped for some replacements πŸ˜‹

The bike will, henceforth, be known as OldBlue....

The swivel 'quill extender' is a bit rickety, after all these years. The bike has a 2005 sticker....
I have driven out the bifurcated hinge pin, replaced it with a bolt & dumped the 'over centre' latch... now fixed, with a bolt.
I don't need to have the handlebars 'sweep down/and over' the front wheel.... I will just chuck the bike in the hatch >> I'm not carrying it on the Tube 😡

The 1" stem of the handlebars, sliding inside the extender, is feeling a mite wobbly so a length of sink drainer pipe may be cut to make a liner/inner.

Looking much better.... Soon on the road*
*Cables + inners on order πŸ‘

As I have built up a fresh 36spoke SA, for my Dawes Kingpin, I have a 'spare' 28h SA hub.
Just so happens this bike is 28spoke....

I see 'good things' happening here πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜Ž

My new pedals arrived today. The 'Chinese bike part' pedal is 14mm flat, the replacements are 15mm flat πŸ€”
I have modified the nylon handlebar insert/sleeve... enabling the bars to rotate 360Β° >>> from the maker, the bars are 'fixed', cannot turn off straight ahead/quill hinge drops them to beside wheel.

I made a handle/nut, to lock the quill clamp.
Comprises a length of Rawlbolt floor anchor + a handbrake balance bar adjustment nut.

The gearing is a 'bit short'.... As can be seen in the knee twirling....
A 12T sprocket is ordered, upping from the 16T as factory.

That should ease things, somewhat πŸ‘

Postman dropped off the brake cabling + outers. Blue to match frame....
I will do that after stripping off the rear drum (for 12T sprocket swap) because the cable needs to come out of the grip nut.

I have purchased a good quality, used caliper for use on the front >> doing most work.
The cheapish steel set I shall relocate to the rear wheel (supplanting the Drum 🀐)

This is from a 60's Moulton, UK made.

#L8Nooze >> 12T sprocket just got here πŸŽ‰

Fitted and tested..... 16T off/12T on....
Transformed the riding experience, sweet spot cadence @reasonable 'rolling along' pace πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
The 16T whizzed off, with the tips in the vid I posted, dead easy.... Whacked the drum off, too!
I had to file off the peaks of the cone locknut because it wouldn't fit in the 18mm clear bore.... Not a problem πŸ”¨

Just got to swap/fit up the calipers and it will be fit to face the road πŸš΄πŸ†
