If you are feeling second hand, I'd have a rest day. That doesn't mean that you need to avoid it completely, just have a very easy session.

You should bear in mind, when using the hill climb program, that on your bike you will have gears, so when the effort (resistance) increases you will change gear to maintain cadence or stand on the pedals rather than killing yourself trying to spin at massive watts.

Try putting the machine on a constant setting that you can spin comfortably at 85rpm for 60 mins + (aerobic excersise and weight loss) If you want to build up muscle then go onto the Interval (hill program) but as with all exercise it is repetitions that are most effective so 30 mins on a lower level will be much more use than 5 mins killing yourself on level 10!

The best fat burning mode is low to moderate heart rate endurance exercise. Fat has to go through several processes to provide energy and high level exercise uses up blood sugars. So, until these are used up you willn't burn fat. So, in the mean time you will not have the energy to exercise. Cycling in the main only exercises the lower body so try and supplement it with swimming. Go for endurance every time.

Thanks chaps, my legs feel easier this morning so will try some short sessions today. Maybe do 10 mins this morning 20 mins this afternoon and 30 this evening?

I have been avoiding the hill climb mode and concentrating on the constant resistance half hour sessions.

My pulse tends to stay about 110 to 120 during the session. Also did my BP during one session went up to max of 160 over 100, using a reliable wrist BP machine at heart height.

the heat will make a real difference. I used to live in the south of France and June to Sept was much harder!

My suggestion would be lots of high RPM sessions on low intensity. 3 x 10-15 mins per day. If you can do this out on a real bike all the better as the view etc will make it more pleasant. Just do little and often and suddenly you will feel it is getting much easier. Once back in the UK the cooler air will feel much better!

Courage!

Thanks for the advice chaps. I had an easy day yesterday and a hot bath, it defo helped, but was still achy in my left leg after just 5 mins on the machine. Tomorrow will be 15,15,15! Hope to get back to 30,30,30 and have no more leg or knee problems soon.

I have started a blog, first time I have done a blog, but hopefully it will keep my enthusiasm up and help me keep a record of how it all started!
