Maybe he's in the wrong job. Most bike jobs are child's play, just doing up nuts and bolts. Mudguards often requires a trial fitting, measuring carefully and cutting accurately before the easy bit of doing up the nuts and bolts.

Although it doesn't say he's incompetent at doing it, just it's one of his least favourite jobs. When my son was a baby, I finally got to "very good" at dealing with a pooey nappy. Doesn't mean it was a job I liked doing.
