As a new commuter i agree, so many incidents i see are due to poor road management or poor road awareness by the cyclists. Sure there are poor drivers out there, but if you don't force yourself into poor road positions you won't get situations like that, a quick look over your shoulder (it's called a life saver for a reason) and you would see him, indicate your move to the left and bingo situation avoided. I check over my shoulder every 30 seconds or so on the road. It's not going to stop the drivers doing stupid things, but it's about keeping safe out there - your the move vulnerable thing on the road. A lot of cyclists could learn from motorcyclists and their techniques.

in this instance, Droid is more interested in directing traffic ahead of him (head cam sequence starting at 4min25) than in checking traffic behind him and as a result moves/drifts left without any signal or shoulder check - I would do both in that situation.

Best to stick to the standard hand signals indicating your own movements and intentions than invent some weird hand flapping that may or may not be seen by the driver of the van and even if seen may not be understood, at least then your attention is focussed on you and the hazards around you not someone else up ahead who you can give space to simply by slowing or maintaining speed.

DAMN, that was a close one! A tricky road, you position was good seconds before hand to avoid the door zone. Then the road widens and the cabbie sees a chance to undertake but you need to avoid the pot hole, could have been a lot worse!

I think you could have trimmed a good section off the start of the video, I was watching a min or two and nothing had happened, if you include it to show what happened before hand, do it after otherwise it's not an engaging video.

Droids do not do combat. Thats for Thugs.

Hang on.

1. You are instigating a verbal 'discussion' - you can't argue with idiots - you 'chase' them down for a verbal ? That's generally thuggish ?
2. Droids - erm aren't you a person ? This 3rd person thing freaks me !

Please just get on and enjoy cycling.
