I have seen a very light cable lock that rewound into a plastic case. The whole thing would easilly fit in a ciggarette packet.

I know this wont last 2 seconds against a real thief but will be better than nothing just popping into a shop or whatever in low risk areas.

Anyone using one have any comments on them/recommend a good one.

I was using one till last week when it flew out of my pocket, tbh a pair of garden snips could probably have cut through it but it gave a certain sense of security when my bike was locked up outside a cafe and there was several other not. Just looked and it has been discontinued by EBC, I liked it better than other cafe locks as it was lock & key rather than combination

They are crazy thin though - wire snips would get through that ?

Have a look at some of the Knog locks - I picked up one this weekend - Coils up enough to fit in a jersey pocket, and is totally rubber covered. Seems OK for a cafe lock. I went for the £27 one, although they have smaller ones for about £15. I bent the key though - you only need the key to un-lock, not lock as it clips together and locks, and whilst fitting (bit tight) bent the key - bent it back straight in the cafe though !

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
There are similar ones with an alarm function (laptop locks??). Has anyone used one of these? They look handy for cafe stops.

I guess so, in the post above I said a pair of garden snips, but I wouldn't be surprised if even a pair of scissor could cut them; it just depends where you are leaving the bike, I don't feel too bad when its right outside a village cafe window and my bike is surrounded by more expensive unlocked bikes ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, I found something similar in a local hardware shop that will do.

Wire is a little bit thicker than some in the links and its a combination lock, still very lightweight ,could cut it in seconds with a pair of wire cutters but I cant be bothered carrying heavyweight protection on a day out.

Wouldnt leave it in the city center locked with one of these but fine for outside a rural shop/cafe (may be proved wrong one day if so I can live with it.).
