Was wondering if these cassettes last as long as cheaper models ?

I,ve had 7000 miles out of an old hg-50 8-Sp cassette with original chain and only chainged cassette and chain because I was putting new crank on.

How long should I get out of Ultegra ?

How long is a piece of string, there's too many variables involved. I've never had ultegra but I've found 8 spd cassettes don't last as long as 10spd (and Sram last longer than Shimano) but its probably more down to the quality of the cassette than anything else; my guess the Ultegra for you will last slightly longer than your old 8sp cassette ;)

There again if you are running the chain and cassette for over 7000 miles you've done very well, almost certainly the cassette would be shot, whereas if you change chain at 75% wear the cassette could last a very long time.
I use Tiagra so not too worried about it, the cassettes are almost as cheap as a new chain anyway

I think that what weather and road conditions you ride in, and how you clean and lube your transmission are the most significant factors.

I don't remember having changed the 10-speed cassette on my Cannondale, but that has mainly been used on dry, sunny days. I did 5 Spanish cycling holidays on it, about 700 miles each time, so that is 3,500 miles, and I must have done at least that again back here in the UK. It is still going strong. I think I might still be on the same chain too.

My 9-speed Basso, however, is used in all weather conditions and I get through a cassette in 2-3,000 miles, and chains quicker than that.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I was just wondering as i,ve done about 3500 miles(dry) so far and i will do at least another 2000 miles before the bike goes away for the winter and my cycling addiction is such that I like to have the parts I need before they need replaced so im not waiting on them to get back on the road.

By the replies I think I should get at least 2000 more .

Cheers

Ribble have some really good prices on components at the minute, I have a spare chain/cassette for the 10 speed CX bike ready.
Will soon be ordering a spare set for the Secteur, I like to buy while prices are good and have them in 'stock'

Thanks £70 for ultegra cassette and chain from ribble ,I usually buy parts from amazon with gift vouchers but they are good bit more expensive than ribble for the cassette and chain.

I bought 2 ultremos from amazon tho for £52 and I had 2 new ones already waiting to be fitted ^_^
