I think it is the rim and the tyre (compound) that makes the difference not the 2mm less of tyre. Try taking the 25mm tyres on and off the other rims and see how it is. I assume they are not the self same tyres, just different sizes?

The Original tyres that came with my Defy 1 did 2500 miles(all weather), they were slicks and recently I have started to re-use the front one as I am waiting for some Schwalbe Durano Wired tyres to arrive from ebay, The tyres I got from my LBS were Cr*p they only did 1000 miles

Tyres are subjective, but I'm largely in the Continental camp when it comes to tyres with my favourites being Continental Grand Prix (lots of grip, reasonable puncture resistance if you stay away from glass strewn urban routes but they do wear sooner) , followed by Continental Gatorskins (less grip, especially in the wet, better puncture resistance and much more hard wearing), there is little weight difference between them though.

Gatorskins, nearly 8,000 on my front one without a puncture, the rear had two pinch punctures from hitting stones to hard, the 2nd put a dent in the rim of a new wheel and took a chunk out of the tyre, it still worked though, the rear would have done about 6,000 miles.

Conti GP4000s - Best all-rounder.

Personally I avoid Zaffiros and ( to a lesser extent) Gatorskins as they're as slippy as hell in cold/damp conditions.
Come on, play the rules! This is a tyre thread - you're supposed to say "skittish"
But.... but I though Vittoria was Italian, and I'm pretty sure Continintal are German...... Wasn't aware either of them came from Scotland....

Not make much difference on my bike at 12.5Kg's, I dont have a problem in the wet with the gatorskins, maybe I just dont push as hard in the wet.

I swear by Gatorskin's (Folding) they are tough as old boots, yes the first 50 miles or so the grip isn't quite there but once "run in" they have enough grip for me to feel totally confident all conditions (and they do go out in all weathers) rule of thumb with these if you start getting punctures then it probably needs replacing! and for £25 they are amazing value for money especially with the miles these thing can churn through!
