Tyres with Wire thread #AnyTips

I have just started replacing my conti gatorskins, the ones with a wire not the foldable ones.

I'm fairly new to cycling and as you can probably guess I don't know much.

Anyway is there any tips to getting these tyres on as when I get to the last bit it becomes quite hard to get the last bit of the last wire on?

(I have ordered foldable ones, but believe I've still got a quite a few miles left on them)

i start opposite the valve - finish at the valve
[Don't screw the wee ring onto the valve stem yet]

this allows the beads opposite the valve to settle right down into the rim
don't inflate the inner ''too' much

dust baby talc along the rim edge --bead should pop right in

push up the valve stem - to ensure the tube aint trapped - add the ring - inflate..!

Folding ones are just as tight, if not tighter.

Why do they make two different versions?
A folding one and a wire one?
Does anyone know the pros, cons or each?

Folding ones can be easily carried as spares, if on a long tour for 1.

well f'instance
my 1980s steel chrome rims on the Peugeot have straight sided walls - not clincher profile

and advice appears to be NOT to fit folding beads

don't know the theory - but taking no chances

Dead right, you cannot fit folding tyres to non-clincher rims
