Tyres for my first hybrid

That's cos yours appears to be a trekking/mountain hybrid whereas others are more road-based in fact the class Hybrid covers a wide range of bikes, mine for instance runs 28mm Schwalbe Marathons but has been biased towards road and gravel path use and last got used for touring. (its an older Ridgeback with CrMo frame and forks) but would be crap at bridleways where yours would be fine.

But what differentiates mine to those I listed other than the size of the tyres?

Like yourself most of my cycling takes place on road and gravel path but according to sreten i'm a fashion victim because I want to swap my tyres for something skinnier. :laugh:

I struggle to understand what he's on about sometimes, you could easily drop to 35s but I'd be wary about any skinnier without seeing the rims first.

The rims are Schürmann Yak19s but I definitely don't want anything skinnier than a 35.

The whole point of this thread was to gauge peoples opinions on some more suitable tyres for a hybrid with front suspension mainly used for road and gravel tracks but good enough to handle some light off-roading.

I guess there's no definitive answer and the only way i'll really find out is by purchasing some slicker slimmer tyres and seeing how they improve my cycling on the road and see how they fare against the wider more knobbly Smart Smarts on the rougher off-road parts.
 
35-38 is usual for a hybrid and typical of bikes used for commuting and touring with heavy loads on tracks and trails. Fatter tyres are usually used for sportier off-road/29er MTB style riding
You can use thin tyres with suspension. Moulton bikes do it to good effect.
Regarding Schwalbe Marathon+ vs M standard, they are totally different tyres. M-std is a good everyday commuter tyre. I have toured on mine extensively and found it a reliable commuter.
M+ is a very heavy-duty model for people who can't fix punctures, for bikes where access is difficult (hub gear+chaincase), or riders who rate convenience and cleanliness over speed (eg folder commuters).

Hi guys, new member here!

I recently purchased my first hybrid bicycle with front suspension, a Cube LTD CLS Pro. Overall I'm really happy with the bike but I've been thinking about changing the tyres and would like some opinions.

After checking out various different hybrids with front suspension on the market I've noticed that they all seem to have skinnier tyres, at the moment I have 622x44 Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres and i'm wondering if I would benefit at all by changing them to a 35 or a 37/38? I do a vast majority of my cycling on the road but do venture on to gravel, mud, and slightly rocky terrain on a fair few of my rides.

I've read the the Schwalbe Marathon Supremes are the best tyre available for the cycling I do but they look too slick in my opinion, am I wrong? Schwalbe Marathon Originals have also been recommended.

What width do you guys think will be best suitable and what is your tyre of choice.

I do fairly much the same as you. I have Scwalbe Landcruisers 700x 35 on my Hybrid and they cope with all i put them through, and i probably go over and above what they are designed to do, but they keep going, and i haven't had any punctures, or tyre damage yet.
