This is a real can of wriggly long animals. What 'works' is so variable it's tricky to give general advice. For example, I'm a fat lumpy heiffer and get on really well with cheapo Kenda Nevegals, which are largely unloved by the puny lightweight public at large.

Thinner at the rear, wider at the front sounds barmy, but is more often an effective combination than the reverse, and is the combo espoused by many of the journos. Try it, see, experiment.
