yes, because it's true.
And why is it true? Do you have any reasoning or proven fact to add weight to this claim, other than the fact that you and lots of other people on the tinterweb keep saying so?

The problem is that this is one of those topics like "cycling is dangerous" or "wearing a helmet WILL save your life". It gets repeated over and over again until eventually a large proportion of people believe it without ever questioning the validity of the statement.

It isn't. Topics like those are largely based on emotion. The issue on cycle tyres is based on established science and fact, as opposed to your own anecdotal evidence. Kestevan's post above has all the info you need.
But we're still a bit light on the 'established science and fact' in this discussion. Just because you keep jumping up and down, stamping your feet and repeating yourself doesn't make your claim any more true.

No, it's not an 'internet myth'. But I really can't be bothered to get into a discussion about it, because I actually don't care whether you believe it or not. I'm all for a good argument - as many on here will testify - but some arguments are just so pointlessly stupid that they are not worth having - and this is one of them. A bit like you asking me to prove that the sun rises in the morning.

The only person jumping up n down, stamping feet, etc is you - and it's embarrassing to watch.

It doesn't, the earth rotates on its own axis, thus giving the illusion the sun is rising

OK then  I'll just leave the room quietly while trying hard not to make eye contact. You just try to play nicely now!

getting back to tyres -
I,m looking to change my mtb knobblys to semi-slicks as I do alot of mixed road/track routes and the only really muddy bits - apart from at present when even the roads are muddy -
so I am looking at schwalbe land cruisers, - but would I be better of not changing both but only the front one, as I need the back one to give me bite and drive in the mud.

I have heard of having diffeent tyres front and back , but never having done it I really don't have a clue (allot of people will agree with me on that one! )
