Tyre wrecked after 1000 miles..

Both Specialized bikes I have were supplied with Armadillos, Nimbus on the Sirrus and Roubaix Pros on the Roubaix. All four tyres delaminated, but not like your picture - on all of mine the centre of the tread (or big chunks of it) came away from the rest of the tyre. The original rear nimbus lasted 2000 miles, its Conti gatorskin replacement still looks good after 5000.
The only good thing about the armadillos was their p******* resistance - only one out of the four tyres ever had a p*******

A good LBS would let you change for a different tyre.
Just to bring this to a close, took the tyre back in today and they refunded me straight away, put the money towards a helmet as I have been without one for a few weeks since my old one disintegrated with road grime.
Happy again, and will now source an alternative tyre from somewhere else, probably Schwalbe Marathon Supreme in 35mm for a bit of added cushioning :becool:

I have just posted in general cycling chat about the exact same issue with those tyres, obviously a manufacturing fault, good to see you got a refund, I will be heading to Evans in Gateshead tomorrow morning.

That sort of damage can occur when run consistently under inflated on some tyres. Planet X have a sale on Schwalbe.

My MTB had disc brakes.

It was rubbing because the hub had a lot of play in it and it was hitting the frame. The barings had gone.
Your bearings had gone badly enough that the wheel was wobbling against the frame yet you rode on it for long enough to wear out the sidewall and you were only worried about the tyre?

Whatever you may do, Matthew, I very much doubt if most here would do that, especially not a regular commuter like Potsy.:headshake:

And I hope that you learned enough to get something sorted before doing that again. :stop:

I took mine back to Evans this morning, they have had a few of these back, he called Specialized, they authorised replacements, I opted for Schwalbe Marathon Plus, Spesh obviously know about the issue, it is definately delamination.
