Tyre question

When i used to ride a MTB (some years ago) I had two different tires on my bike. Special front and rear tires.
Now my current trekking bike needs some new rubber and I was wondering if 2 different tires would give any benefit on my bike.
I was thinking to put a new Marathon Plus Tour (26 x 1.75) back on the rear wheel, good for traction / grip, and put a Marathon Racer (26 x 1.75 or 26 x1.5) on the front wheel, less resistance.

Any thoughts on the subject?

With cycle tyres so little is in contact with the road, even on MTB size rubber, that you won't get any advantage by using a different tyre. You will get better grip however on looser surfaces by running lower pressures.

When I switched from marathon plus to marathon plus tour i noticed a big difference in grip on my back wheel when riding the off-road part of my commute.
Also noticed more rolling resistance, that's why I'm playing with the idea of 2 different tires.
Lower pressures do indeed provide more grip, but is not really great on the marathon tires.
