......up through Delamere usually and apart from resurfacing a few months back all roads i use are in ok condition.
I've been riding those roads most weekends recently with 3 other lads on here. The roads can be very bad, with pot-holes and loose gravel. There are a couple of bikes with Gatorskins (I've got a pair myself ready to fit) and the only tyre failure we've had was due to a "mechanical" locking the rear and the tyre blowing out, that was a Vittoria Zaffiro (but any tyre would have blown).

I have been told (by someone in the business of selling tyres) that twisting and folding new tyres for posting damages the sidewall

Keep an eye out for us at the Station Cafe ^_^

Is it Bontrager that sell their tyres folded in a box?

As the manufacturer, they ought to know, but I reckon it can't do the structure of the tyre any good.

We got a load of Bontragers to support a group End to End a couple of years back. They certainly didn't come folded.
We used most of them, replacing all kinds of other tyres which were puncturing far too frequently. Excellent tyre at the budget end of things.

Never been a fan of Contis TBH - too tight to get on and off. Michelin Krylion (and the replacement Pro4 Endurance) have shown themselves to be remarkably resilient for such a lightweight tyre. The claimed 5000km life is spot-on in my estimation, rear tyre is beginning to "square-off" at that point and become more susceptible to penetration, but I've had at least one go that far with no flats. Never had a sidewall issue on any of them.
