Typical muscle loss rates?

Hi,

Does anyone here know much about muscle loss? I imagine there's lots of factors involved but just wondered if it's possible to predict how much muscle you will lose if you become inactive for a specified length of time?

My initial feeling on this is it must be far too many factors involved for it to be possible to give an estimation but has anyone out there tried to?

As you said... so many factors.

-genetics
-nutrition
-level of inactivity
-illness

Difficult to predict that one!

You're losing muscle on your 500cal a day shake diet?

500cal a day? I've never said that.

I've spent the last two weeks boozing a bit anyway, have not dieted properly and not done any exercise. My weight hasn't changed much, still just under 12 stone. So I figure I've lost muscle and gained a bit of fat.

This thread isn't about that though.
