Good point gavintc. I think strobe front headlights are a nuisance to other road users.

Agreed. The other night I had to invite a following rider to pass me as his intensely bright light on his helmet was seriously distorting my vision. He had it on strobe (at about 3Hz) while sitting on my back wheel, which meant all I could see were flash imprints of my shadow ahead of me. Traffic signs were completely blown. These images would be temporarily burned into my retina making it very disorientating.

God knows what traffic heading towards him was suffering.

It amazes me that any considerate person would use any bike light on the road that dazzles other road users. Yet most do.

Low intensity helmet lights are fine to see a map, or perhaps even a street sign. If you use them to see the road they will make it harder to see potholes and similar dangers. A low light is much better for that.
