About an hour, depending on what route i decide to do.
yeh i been reading the bkool thread - i bought the elite realtour instead and some of the pre-programmed training routes are pretty tough

During the racing season, I do everything on the turbo. I don't waste time riding at below tempo intensity unless it is a recovery ride and I don't do many of those!

Up to 2 hours is not uncommon, but most common I spend approx 70-90 mins, occasionally I will ride 3 hours or so at tempo, but not often.

I suppose it depends what are you trying to achieve!

Where I live, there are busy valley roads and exposed hilly roads, neither of which are very appealing in crappy weather so indoor winter cycling is something that I often did instead.

I wasn't particularly scientific about it. I just did what I felt like doing which was usually either:

  • A steady warm-up (10-15 mins) which then continued to build in intensity (10-30 mins) to a short climactic sprint (carefully timed to fit in with a musical climax), followed by a warm-down (10-15 mins). Total time 31-61 mins.
  • A warm-up followed by extremely tough sprints alternating with enough recovery to be able to say out loud "So, you think you are strong, eh? Well, eat this, big guy!" Repeat until unable to talk or walk properly. A grovel-down for 10 minutes or so, then stagger off to wash, change, refuel, and lie down whimpering until sleep took away the pain ...

Give me howling gales and pouring rain rather than a turbo. 2-3 hours on one - are you insane ?

I used to do 30-40 minutes of intervals when I couldn't get out on the road. Hate the things !

Colin, Have you been watching me on the turbo? You have haven't you? And I thought that hole in the skirting boards were a mouse hole.

Is it just me or do other people start the welcome the pain?
