I assume that this directed at me. I don't think I was moaning, simply putting forward my view. I accept these machines have their uses. This is a forum where people offer advice and opinions. You have to accept that not everybodys ideas coincide with yours. If you think using a turbo trainer is in some way fulfilling or life enhancing I would be interested to hear your argument. Now that really would be worth a prize.
OP didn't ask how people find turbos. He asked are they a suitable alternative when road time is limited. Which of course they are.

He then gave a budget with which to suggest potential purchases. People posted links

Nowhere did he mention how boring people perceive them to be.

I dont want to piss on your fireworks but feel obliged too . A turbo has been a godsend for me. 12 months ago I had a major operation. I was advised both before and after to keep off the bike (by a surgeon no less) so I did. The turbo has enabled me to re build my fitness, strength and cardio and I would say that is pretty life enhancing and probably fulfilling as well under the circumstances. (well it is fulfilling, so fulfilling my brother now has one based on my recommendation)

I dont know if you location is accurate (Ghana) but the last 4 months have been pretty crap weather wise here in the UK and strangely enough sitting in my garage has been more pleasurable than riding in extreme cold / wet and often dangerous conditions and it is enshrined into my weekly schedule. You see some people can also rise above the so called boredom of the turbo and I guess you cant.

I dont usually bite, I now only come on this forum for a bit of a 'lift' (keeping out of the commuting sections helps ) but I look forward to my prize

Good Afternoon,
Are they worth the money?
Do they adequately prepare you for doing 70+ miles a day?
Have you tried Fartlek training? If you are limited on time because of a baby then this could be good for you as it is a time-efficient way of training and you could do short turbo sessions at home. Won't help for the endurance aspect of your London-Edinburgh but it's brilliant for maintaining base fitness level.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
