@Whorty you could go all in on the Roglic special edition Oltre XR4

Or for 2020 there is a Specialissima with Ultegra on it for £4800. It’s their super lightweight frame.
I'm off to see the guys at County Cycles next week to discuss options and look at a few more in the flesh.

Should have added ..... they have a Spelissimo and Oltra XR3 in stock for me to look at and hopefully test ride (assuming it's close to my size) and they have asked a kindly customer who recently bought an Infinto CV Disc with Di2 to let me test ride this too. This is good service 👍 I'm rally hoping the racier bikes feel Ok and not too harsh as I'd like a choice of bikes.

Q. Do I need Di2 or is it worth saving the £1000 from that and upgrading to faster wheels?

I think we discussed this before and I was in the minority. But my vote would be faster wheels every time

You don't need.

But having gone from mechanical to di2 ultegra I find it almost prescient. I change up/down to the correct gear almost without thinking.

I've been flipping between mechanical and Di2 ..... then thought, if I went mechanical I could use the extra cash for upgrades rather than just leaving in the bank  If I don't get Di2 I'll want to ensure the set up allows for it to be added later (when the price might come down a bit).

If you can get the bike you want, configured as you want, bar the di2, at a discount I would probably go that way.

I managed to get my Cube at an EOL discount of about 20%. That money saved went towards the di2 upgrade. For about £200, over the undiscounted price difference, I upgraded to di2. I ended up saving about £1.5k over similar spec'd bikes.

I still have the mechanical parts to upgrade my other bikes to if I wish.

Just remembered the new di2 system can synchro shift. That's when it moves from big to little chain ring or vice versa and bumps up or down up to 3 rear cogs when the next change, up or down, takes it outside the ideal chain alignment or the next step is too big.

It does this on a left button change.

It's a bit weird the first few times it happens but you soon get used to it.

Its hard to say if it’s worth upgrading the wheels without knowing which wheels the bike comes with?

Everyone else get this?

You’re the first to know about our BIG NEWS…. Following feedback after an amazing qualifier we had at ToC 2019, we’re re-introducing the Road Race in 2020.
We felt that in 2019, the Race was the safest and most enjoyable we’ve had so why would we not replicate this for next year.

How will the Road Race be set up?
The Road Race will work very similar to previous years with each individual Masters age group having their own Race, start time and officiating team.

What is the qualification distance?
The qualification distance for this year is:
19-59 Men = 100 miles
60+ Men = 70 miles
Women = 70 miles
As soon as we've made the residents and businesses aware of the extensive closures we'll be putting in place, we'll show you our exciting routes for 2020.

How many places will be available in each age group?
The maximum number of places in each age group will be 150.

I will probably change to doing the race. I always get a Race licence each year anyway and plan to do a few races in 2020. I'm thinking the race will be slightly quicker than the Gran Fondo. Anyone else thinking of it?

I got it.

Don't think I'll change.

I never took up racing. I did some club TTs and rode a number of Sportives, including the Etape, but left it at that.

I've got a Provisional Racing Licence as part of my BC Silver Membership but I wasn't clear from the email whether that is enough for entering the race.

I got it - I think I'll stick to the Gran Fondo. I'm keen to go fast and take it reasonably seriously, but perhaps not THAT seriously! So the GF seems about the right balance for me

Same here. First target for me is getting to the start line. Anything after that is a bonus :wahhey:
My target, currently, is just to get to the start line. My treatment for my leg issue goes slowly.

I'd like to be 25+kg lighter when arriving there. But may have difficulty in reaching that target in a healthy way, currently.

I hope to meet up with all of you again on the day for some banter.
