hi all - i have a regular bike with front suspensions and would like to add front panniers
i have located 2 options with the Faiv being more expensive but i believe allowing the bags to sit lower.
does anyone have experience of either/both especially concerning height of bag and ride balance.

thanks for any feedback

What do you intend to do? Touring or commuting? If touring will it be on asphalt or rough roads?

Another option would be the offerings from Old Man Mountain - choice of low rider or one with a shelf. I have a Sherpa front rack and used it for several thousand miles touring on rough roads in Africa. It was the only rack I used that didn't break (my Tubus Logo rear rack broke). A mate has the low rider and it's equally impressive.

I've not heard of Faiv.

thanks for the info - i will mainly be using on roads or dirt tracks - nothing to extreme. i was concerned about how the bike would handle with the racks for suspensioned forks causingthe bags to sit higher than usual.

For tracks I'd always recommend the shelf-type rack so the panniers sit a bit higher. I've had my OMM front rack well loaded up and I never had issues with handling. It feels different, but only takes a short time to adapt to it. With 2 front panniers loaded with mostly lighter stuff I doubt you'd notice a vast difference between shelf-type and low rider.

many thanks for the feedback. I see you are in the UK - do you know of a european distributor for OMM? i looked at their site - if i see the pics right - the sherpa front sits on the hub and the suspension is above the fittings. i quite like the OMM (from net pics) because it doesn't have the damper of the tubus swing.

thanks to all for posting here - its a costly thing to buy and i don't want to get it wrong - so really appreciate all the feedback-

check out ebay before you buy new... I had my eye on the OMM front rack, but at £70+ was too expensive, had a look on ebay and found an unused one for £35 on Buy It Now.

you never know what people buy and don't use before bunging it on ebay.
