Tube valve length advise please

I have just taken ownership of a new bike, it has Weinmann DP18 rims and the presta valves do not protrude very far, I cannot "lock" my track pump on!

What length valves should I be using on the tubes (I haven't removed the supplied tube yet so cannot tell you what the current lenght is).

Does anyone use these rims, and what length valves do you use?

Looking at their website the rims are 31mm deep so I'd say 48mm minimum - but maybe ~60mm if you want to make it easy if the tube is empty.

Continental 60mm version .. failing that you can buy a valve extender for when you check the tyre pressures

vittoria's tubes can come with a 51cm valve, and that's quite long. one wheelset i have has 30mm rims, and the pump fits onto the valve perfectly well.

As an additional comment on this - some track pumps demand more protruding valve length than others. I have a Specialized track pump, and note that it needs a longer valve than some other pumps. I notice this when I lend it to friends and they cannot get it to fit, when their own track pumps work fine. Cue - lots of swearing if you have brought the pump and are in the car park getting ready for a sportive.

60mm will be more than needed. A 42mm valve will be enough for most pumps. 50mm should be enough for any pump.

I've found that some short valve tubes also seem to be slightly thinner than others, so my track pump wouldn't lock on. However by wrapping a layer of electrical tape once round, then the pump stays on.
