I recently put a new set of 26 x 1.4 tyres on my bike as i had previously a fattish tyre which i got rid of due to needing abit more speed out and about.

I continued to use the tubes which i initially had which were for 26 x 1.75 to 2.1

As of today one of my tyres has developed bulges and appears 'buckled' even though i put the inner tube in without pinching it in the rim or anything like that

My other tyre is ok but is it ok to use larger tube dimensions with narrower tyres? I was thinking the cause of the problem being the mismatch in the tube/tyre widths?
Should i be using 26 x 1 3/8 to 1.5 tubes?

Seeing as they all expand the same way i dont see why this should have happened

I've used oversized tubes on my mountain bike for the last couple of months without a problem. Have you checked the front tyre for signs of a manufacturing defect?

Edit: How long before the problem appeared?

As Al-Fresco says it could be a tyre defect but running tubes larger or smaller than the tyres for which there are designed is never a good idea. Larger tubes can lead to the problems you are experiencing, smaller can lead to tyre squirm.

I don't see that this is likely to be caused by tubes unless the tyre isn't seated correctly on the rim. The biggest problem with using a larger than necessary tube is fitting the thing.

BTW, a 26 x 1 3/8" roadster tube is physically much bigger than an MTB tube.

Thanks alot for the replies, yes like i said, i always fit the tubes without pinching, i suspect it is a tyre defect, im hoping tp replace them soon with specialized nimbus ones
