4 punctures in 4 rides!!

I'm riding a Defy 4 and everything is standard on it. I'm also 17 stone. Will this have an impact? If yes, what do I do? I'm using Schwalbe inner tubes on Sr2 wheels. I usually put 120psi. Tyre wall says 125psi.

I'm basically asking for the most puncture proof tube & tyre combo.

Any help would be great.

What tyres are you using? Also slime tubes, no more punctures.

Always wondered how do you know if slime tubes work ?

Marathon plus by schwalbe are considered one of the best for not punturing OP .

When i got home from a ride last winter i found green stuff over my frame, inspected the rear tyre and found a hole fairly close in size to a pea filled with the slime. Still did another ride of 40k on the tyre and tube before i replaced them. I reckon they work well enough.

I'm tempted to suggest Schwalbe Marathon plus also, although even the most puncture resistant tyres and tubes can fail. Get into the habit of checking the tyres for glass/flints/thorns before and after each ride (don't shoot me, I'm just letting you know what works for me!)

Kenda tyres?

All advice gratefully received the_mikey. I won't take offence. I have very little experience in cycling. Only been cycling for about 3 months. Enjoying it but the punctures are starting to get on my nerves.

On the plus side, I can change the tube much quicker than I could 4 rides ago!!

Marathon + anecdotally give the best p'ture protection but folk also say they are heavy; that might be a consideration if so consider something like Continental gator skins or Mitchelin Pro 4 Endurance. Id stick away from slime personally, its heavy and messy and from reports only seals small holes. Another new player Ive seen are from Bontager, its a tire that knits together in the case of a p'ture and uses a much thinner glue to seal it 100% I've seen it in action in my mates bike shop, IIRC he pumped it up to 140psi, hammered nail into it removed it and it only went down by 5-10psi and after several nails and weeks it was still 100psi + A lot of my mates up north are now using these as training tires.
Unless you are buying expensive ultra light tubes other than plain Butyl another type will make no difference.

I use marathon plus on all my bikes and I fly, okay I don't fly, but I am happy with them. Not going to curse myself regarding punctures, but I am more than happy with their performance.

I had a nail go through one of my tyres when I had a slime tube in. Took the nail out and rode another 3 or 4 miles home with very little loss of pressure. Whilst the slime tube worked, I have not continued to use them as it made a right mess of the inside of the tyre and I got covered in goo, in fact I at first thought some local scrote had chucked a paint bomb at me.

I only got one puncture in my stock Giant tyres in 1500 miles. Now I'm using two different tyres on my bikes. The best one is wearing GP4000S with Conti tubes. No punctures yet, very comfy, very fast! The commuter/winter one has Vittoria Rubino Pro's with Kenda (I assume) tubes. No punctures yet, comfy, not as fast as the 4000, but faster than the stock tyres.

Extra weight may not help (I'm 11 stone) but I still do the usual of avoiding potholes, debris etc, and higher pressure will help. The most bombproof tyre is the Marathon Plus, but they are slow. Gatorskins are a good compromise, not as fast as GP4000S, but tougher, A favourite with city commuters.

I have a couple of sets of Kendas, both wide tires, and they hold up quite well and provide good protection. I also have tire liners in one. Often, in the Western US, tire liners are de rigueur due to the presence of the goathead thorn.

This sounds like you have a piece of debris - maybe glass - stuck in the tyre. So you put a new tube in or repair it and then when you next ride, the glass works its way thru the tyre again and punctures it.

check the tyre very very carefully near the punctured area - it helps to mark where the valve is on the tyre to then track this down when you get the tube out and find the hole. i.e. just line the valve back upto the mark on the tyre. Tyre turning tyre inside out at that point too.
