I've just had the same issue with my DBR Sprint and i believe it to be a fault with the way the rims have been machined. All of the holes around the rim which give you access to the spokes had very sharp edges on mine and when i was inflating the tube the rim tape was moving exposing one of these sharp edges, as the pressure increased it was forcing the tube onto this sharp edge causing it to explode. I had this happen 4 times in a row before i realized what was happening. since then i have put this on my rims http://www.wiggle.co.uk/velox-rim-tape/ and touch wood have done over 100miles so far with out an issue. Hope this helps

I had it again on LEL. I had a puncture about 5 miles from Kirkton. I changed the tube, gassed it up and rode into the control all ok. Next morning checked the tyres just to make sure I hadn't missed what had caused the puncture (it was dark when I changed the tube). All ok. So let all the gas out and re-inflated with a track pump. All ok. Went back inside to get some bananas and water. BANG! One of the volunteers put a new tube in and it's still fine. I'm putting it down to myself cack handed replacement of tubes. Makes me nervous about getting a puncture though.

I had a similar thing and went through 3 tubes in quick succession. In my case it was the reinforcement from the tyre sticking out and bursting the tubes. Tyre binned.
You bought new tyres but worth turning the tyre inside out and going round each section carefully to make sure there is nothing in the tyre - might even be a tiny piece of glass that you have picked up. Did the puntures all happen at the same place on the wheel?
The shop mentioned the rims. They may mean that where the rims are joined there is a rough edge. Run your finger carefully round the inner rims and iff you feel any sharp bits, rub these down with a file.
