It is a curious comparison.
You do of course see cyclists jumping red lights, that's accepted. According to some individuals (and Big Al) the clear implication is that all cyclists have a collective responsibility for the ones who are irresponsible or dangerous.
Yet on the other hand, I had a liveried council van nearly ran into the back of me yesterday, several times... the driver appeared distracted and braked far too too late, three times at least; Looking in the mirror I could see why, she was holding her phone up in her left hand and jabbering away, laughing, clearly on a video call. But I didn't immediately think "all drivers need to take collective responsibility for this". That's far from unusual behaviour from a driver, but I just thought she, individually, was a complete knucklehead.
Why did I think the latter thought process, and not the former?
