I have seen several posts here, posted by a totally new member, seeking opinion regarding the cause of bike accidents. Those posts almost always points to some mistakes done by the cyclist and seek the forum users view on the credibility of that "defence".

Now with regard to this particular post, you can see that story of the involvement of other vehicles or animals come after the original post.

However before I offer an explanation, I would like the following information.
If the cyclist is in ITU, I suspect that cyclist was not able to take this photo of his bike. So who took the photo?

If the back wheel locked because the chain jammed (Causing the bike to slide) and he landed on the grass it is hard to see how he suffered severe concussion and three broken ribs. If he had hit something the bike would be damaged.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

I hope he recovers very quickly which is the most important thing. You may not get an answer to your question unless you find any more evidence, I once had a lock up of the back wheel but there was a huge amount of damage to spokes, wheel and derailleur which had come into contact with each other.

All the best to you

it is the injured party's son who has been posting the photos so can only assume he has also taken them.

Hello! This is my first time using his forum, and I am a bit of a bike newbie. Unfortunately, my dad was in a bad bike crash this Wednesday, and I am wondering if the chain being caught could cause the bike tire to lock up some how? I have attached the photo of the bike chain after the accident. Could this cause a crash??

Whereabouts did the crash happen? I'm guessing that it's not in the UK.
