If the Irish refused to nominate, he could get a nomination from the Swiss, as a resident there. All in the rules. I like the idea of limitation of terms of office though. Verbruggen was around for 14 years and look what he left behind.
But there MUST be someone who will have the guts to stand up and be counted (not Lemond, a one trick pony having his cahin pulled by commercial backers), maybe someone younger from a major european country like France, for instance?
An easy comparison, lomg serving PMs, Blair and Thatcher, both far too long on office, and were so convinced that they knew best by the later years left a whole country messed up.
The Americans have it right with their "two goes and you are off" rule for Presidents. Keep refreshing the office - even if sometimes an idiot gets elected!

Maybe, maybe not. I'll have my fingers crossed though.

Even if Cycling Ireland says no, McQuaid can still seek nomination from the Swiss federation I believe.

Now I'd love both Ireland and Switzerland to say no. That'd really make me smile ^_^

Not a chance, too long in the tooth for that! Besides I've been a rider and involved in racing for so long, no-one can trust ex-riders, managers, or officials according to some posters, who may have knowledge and evidence (in which case tell UKADA!!) or just be working on their own assumptions.
But thanks for the offer....:-)
