depends where I am going - lycra no probs if going home, but if I have to change in public, breatherble w/proof overtrousers can be whipped off without any fuss

I've got water resistant shorts, longs & leg/knee warmers. They will get defeated by anything but light showers however due to the way they work you don't notice how wet they were until you take them off. They also dry very quickly at the merest hit of warmth as long as they're free to breath.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Rain legs over lycra, you get breath ability and keeps most of your legs dry.

Lycra. Dries in an instant.
Waterproof trousers too boil in the bag.

In freezing cold as well as rain a little bit of boil in the bag beats freezing & soaked. I wear shorts, legwarmers, and only put on my waterproof overtrousers if it's chucking it down & cold.

Can anybody tell me how Ron Hill Trackster DXBs perform in the rain? They are supposed to be water resistant. Thanks.
They do dry very quickly, but not as quick as lycra and don't feel too bad when wet with shorts underneath

I use Ron Hill Bikester DXB's and the rain runs off them.

I never wear waterproofs they just boil you to death I usually just wear Bikesters in summer or Winter Cruisers in winter and if its cold a Aultura Night Vision Windproof Jacket or a cycling jersey if its warm and if it rains they are designed to dry quickly anyway.

I've been using a pair of Mountain Equipment Ibex Pants throughout Winter. Very comfortable. They've been excellent in rain, wind and snow. Adjustable zipped leg gusset which is ideal for cycling. Good range of zippered pockets. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Waterproof trousers that aren't boil in the bag exists, but don't expect to pay less than £100 for them.

I have a pair of Gore Ultrapants (I think they are called) and I've ridden in torrential rain in them and not got even slightly wet, and not felt uncomfortably hot either. But they did cost £115.

Those are the ones. I believe I got mine from Evans.

You do need to wear something underneath them though, as they are a kind of plasticy feeling material inside which probably won't feel too pleasant directly against the skin.

Before you go ahead and buy yourself a pair, I believe a similar topic came up a while back and a couple of other waterproof trousers were mentioned that looked even better.
