I think that she was an Instagrammer, but I agree with the sentiment!

As for trivial things cheering me up... On 3rd March I was getting fed up of junk mail and bills but then opened a letter which contained a cheque for £30, a prize win in a magazine competition. On 14th March I got a second letter from the same magazine telling me that I have won £50 in a subsequent competition!

Getting Devon County Council to repair two enormous potholes...

and today...

To be fair to DCC, they have a really good reporting system, and if you stress the risk to cyclists, they often do respond pretty quickly.

Two things this morning:

1) Replacing the (25-year-old) broken fridge at Currys and saving lots of money by taking the old fridge to the store for recycling - it was free, but would have cost £28 via bulky item collection from Exeter City Council... if I'd had the fridge delivered and the old one collected, by Currys, it would have cost £40: its' not often I use my car, but this was definitely worth it, as the store is only three miles away.

2) Filling out the form to say that I really, really, really don't need a TV licence. I like the incredulity at each stage that I never watch live TV in any form. Not had one since 1993. I realise I am an outlier.

Oh, I forgot the third thing:

My 2003 Nissan Almera had been going smoothly again after replacing spark plugs and coil packs in the Autumn, until last Saturday, when I limped home and parked the car up, thinking that it would have to be a garage job. Last time I took it in, all was sweet and they couldn't identify a fault.

Well, I started it up this morning, and it was properly lumpy - thrum thrum thrum thrum - so I did what I did last time, unplugging each coil pack in turn, and when I disconnected the second along, the thrumming stopped. So I removed the coil pack, put another one in, and bingo - no thrumming. Hence the successful fridge collection.

I think that'll be it for today's cheering news: three things is more than enough for one day.

Sorting out the dust extraction for our men's shed.

We finally cracked it using existing machines and buying another canister extractor.

We were too ambitious with a piped system which didn't work well so individual dx seems better option.
