People "fixing" road-signs, but leaving massive spelling mistakes that are obvious to everyone. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Less than 24 hours after receiving a tax rebate (wow, first time ever); today I received a letter - apparently from HMRC - demanding the payment of an unspecified amount of money by early 2024; plus a fine (also unspecified) because I've already missed that deadline. Eh?

Sounds like a scam, but I wouldn't put it past HMRC to send such sh*t.

I had a letter from HMRC at the start of June telling me I had underpaid my tax for 2022-23. I then got another letter yesterday telling me I had paid too much tax in that same year and they were refunding me (this was equal to 75% of the amount they initially said I owed).

I don’t understand how they mess this up when I’m PAYE and retired!

And another thing, why can’t they just offset the two amounts?

I am assured by the chap who does my tax and experience that they are in total chaos.
My wife's late aunt's estate has been on hold for 4 months trying to get an answer from them. In the end it's been paid out with a proviso that there might be an amount owing or a rebate

I remember when I was working freelance a few years ago, so was on self-assessment. Filled in the online form, which automatically fills in any fields which are formed from combinations of others, so all arithmetic is done for you.

A few weeks after filling it in, I get a letter from HMRC saying the amount had been adjusted due to an arithmetic error in the form!

Also had a "last chance " phone call that they were on their way to raid my house and seize assets.
But I could settle with this agent there and then!
Well send me an email to my email address then. Include bank details and a reference number for the payment.
Yes, that worked too

I always butter the outside of both pieces of bread in the sandwich to be toasted - simples - never sticks. IMNSHO a non stick sandwich toaster never works well after it ages a bit.

I did 'butter', though I use olive oil spread, the outsides of all four slices. I think the next time I make one I'll brush some olive oil on the 'Teflon' (Polytetraflouroethylene) with a pastry brush. Providing it's a savory one, not a sweet one, but I don't think I've ever made a sweet one.

Edit...I remember now, I made a banana and raspberry jam one once, when I fancied something sweet. It was ok, but a bit TOO sweet......... and too overloaded with banana! xx(

Wiping some veg oil (or similar ) over the heating surfaces can also help but even then and buttering the outside of the bread I still often end up with of bits toasted bread stuck to it.
