oh and the mounting mrandmrspoves is referring to is for 'braze on' front mechs - I cant comment as to whether your bike has one or not. It'll be obvious looking at it though!

I had a similar problem. Under load, it was difficult to shift from the middle ring to the granny ring. I took it to a local cycle repair company (with a very good reputation) and he improved it but said the problem seemed to be the extra friction cause by the internally routed cables passing under the BB. Nowadays I just change up in plenty of time to avoid trying to do it whilst standing stock still on the cranks on a 15% hill.

my wife and i both have tricross disc elite triples, and have never had this problem. LBS talking buzzcocks?

Dunno, but they are very highly rated by local clubs and his comment was echoed by a completely different LBS.

I had a similar problem with a Tricross, not sure if it's the same but here goes.

The front derailleur could not get the chain onto the big ring without a struggle, if I put it on a stand it seemed to shift fine, it was only when I was riding it.

I'd had the crankset replaced by my LBS a year before this and it turned out the BB was the incorrect width for the new crankset, I'd had it into three different bike shops before someone worked out what the problem was. I got it replaced and the problem went away.
