That's a good time!

I rode down to Manchester yesterday and going south from the M65 through Wheelton towards Chorley got mixed up with the Ironman competitors for a few miles. It was heading south west, straight into the wind but I've never seen such a disorganised rabble, they were strung out all over the place making no attempt to work together. As I was on a 38 mile ride not 112 miles, I was going harder so I slowly overhauled a few of them; each time I had a bit of a chat and told the rider to get on my wheel and I would give them a bit of shelter and a boost. Not one single rider took me up, they all smiled politely and when I next looked back they were falling behind. If I was riding a triathlon I would try to get a chain gang together so as to reduce the effort for a few riders.... but then I would never do a triathlon because swimming bores me and I can't run for toffee.

I can only assume that triathlons are done by solitary athletes who have no interest in forming alliances for their mutual benefit. Strange folk indeed. Or is there a rule against drafting?

I think you will find that a triathlete that drafts anyone will be disqualified. So having spent the thick end of £300 its a risk that aint worth it!!!!
