I'm looking for a lightweight (sub 10kg and therefore carbon?), flat-barred, 'fitness' bike with a 1x drivetrain and 700c wheels. I'd prefer v-brakes over disc, but there doesn't seem to be much chance of that.
It would seem to come down to the Trek or the Specialized. There's a Trek showroom across the other side of town so I popped across there yesterday to see if they had one in that I could take a look at, but alas no. In fact, if I want to order one it'll be May 2022 at the earliest! Haven't yet found a dealer with a Sirrus in stock, so I guess the lead time is likely to be about the same as for the Trek.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has either of these - any positive or negative observations?
Also, does anyone have any other recommendations which would satisfy the above criteria? The only alternative I've come across is the Rose Backroad GRX810 Multicross, which is a 2x, but of course Rose are no longer shipping to the UK anyway - thanks Brexit!

Thanks folks.

Craftily slid the B word into the 1st post and therefore claim my prize.

Have you looked at the Whyte R7 range? The alu Sterling was always around 9kg.

looks like you should be able to get a Sterling in about a month from Balfes (London chain) and presumably other Whyte stockists

JE James in Sheffield are a Whyte dealer

They’re fantastic bikes (and not an American company ;) )

Thanks. I did take a quick look at the Sterling, but having an alu frame and mid-range gearset, suspected it wouldn't get under 10kg - maybe I need to send them a mail and find out exactly how heavy it is? Or indeed as you suggest, pop into JE James - there's three outlets all within cycling distance, so I have no excuse.
And you're right to point out Whyte's more local credentials 👍

Thanks Vickster. Much appreciated sound advice.

There’s a £1k carbon Boardman too, no idea on availability, full spec doesn't seem to want to load

Or a cheaper option

Ooo, I would never have thought to look at a Boardman. Found the spec at https://www.boardmanbikes.com/gb_en/products/2347-hyb-8.9-2021.html
It's a little over 10kg, but not much.
Thought about popping into a Halfords for a closer look, but there appears to be none in stock around here.
Hmm, something to think about though.🤔

You've doubled my list of possibles already! Many thanks.

@vickster has definitely re-energised my searching.
The Merida Speeder 900 at 9.3kg with an alu frame and decent groupset, albeit 2x, also looks to be a contender https://www.merida-bikes.com/en-gb/bike/2049/speeder-900

Merida appears to be a German brand, but not one with which I'm familiar. Anyone own or ridden a Merida?
They’re Taiwanese I think and part own Specialized perhaps

Visited JE James today to see if they had anything in that I could look at. Knew from their website that they had no stock of any of the above, but thought they might have something perhaps lower down the ranges so I could sit on one and at least get a sense of geometry. Nope. Nothing. The young lad spent 20 minutes searching the 'puter, only to recommend the Sirrus and say they didn't know when they might have stock in once more. Even if I placed an order, they had no idea when it would arrive. Also that they didn't expect the overall situation to resolve itself much before 2024!

Think I might look elsewhere.

And having a mooch around the JE James site also brought the Giant Fastroad Advanced 1 to my attention https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/fastroad-advanced-1
However, it is a 2x and the groupset spec look a bit middle of the road? (I'm less familiar with components from a road background)

Still, it too goes on the list.
It comes equipped with 105, which is Shimano's 3rd tier groupset (so below dura-ace and ultegra). It's their workhorse, 11 speed, and good value for money.
