I apologise. I was being flippant. I send my best wishes.
It's ok, I think the point I am trying to make, its not about gender (though important to me) but the fact we judge without knowing, I have had some serious O.D. attempts, two things kept me going (as in living) the early ones (1996-200) I hardly drunk, the more recent ones 2012-2015 the doc's don't let me have anything dangerous plus those that are, are safe, it never goes away the wanting too, but overtime you learn to cope and try and be safe, because whilst mum did die of an OD I am trying not to do it to my children, and cycling lifts that depression

if strava didn't put a female option on there, then there would be hell to pay the feminists would be out in arms claiming inequality, and that starve was a sexist app. Times are moving on pretty fast for the Gender debate. Soon we won't have it listed on passports, as gender is not really needed on there anyway.
Gender is such a fluid concept, in this day and age.
If sträva didnt put any thing on to denote gender at all i am sure there would have been said feminists about saying something like, why have men and women times together how can we compete with them (I'm sure many woman are as good as men on starve just making a little point here) and maybe vice versa.

I think we should just have away with labelling from birth. For i ama boy and i like the colour pink ... but to my defence pink was actually a boys colour and blue was for girls ....

I'd forget Strava. Just chill and enjoy your ride. I've never understood this drive for setting records.

This.
It's not important to compete against a whole host of strangers,to top a Strava list.Set your own goals, and beat yourself.
It's a tricky one though,as there is a complete sex change man to woman in my work, and physically she is stronger than a lot of the guys in there.
So if you do compete, technically you would be doing it with a man's naturally more stronger traits

Agreed. For me. it's about being out in the fresh air and enjoying the exercise and the company. In fact as I grow older and slower my focus on enjoyment increases; I'm even doing wind-assisted rides and coming back by train nowadays.

If you want to 'compete' on Strava, then you're bound to how they categorise people. Or, you could just not bother with the whole issue and just enjoy your riding.

This for me. I don't really care whether someone is faster than me because there'll always be someone faster than me. What matters is am I faster than I was yesterday/last month/this time last year.

Its a tricky call, eh, cos like it or not women are physiologically different. Indeed, men are physiologically different to each other, hence I guess the weight bandings. Hell, everyone is different to everyone else full stop, so why not just bin the gender and weight thing entirely?

It's your call of course, but as it stands at the moment i can see your confusion over where to put yourself, and its wrong that any user should be in that position - there should simply be an option for an individual to switch the choices off.

I'm not sure what "feeling like a man" is supposed to feel like. Whenever I have a shave, a beautiful woman doesn't snuggle up over my shoulder and fondle my face like in the Gillette adverts. I don't have a big car with fat tyres either. Can anybody give me advice about how to improve my situation?

Does a big trike with fat tyres count?

Sport is difficult as they make distinctions that are absent in the general community

Strava is "pseudo sport" site and follows the sport conventions

I remember a local furore a few years ago when a local able bodied couple were racing wheelchairs

They felt it was a legitimate sport and they were entitled to compete as everyone was equal in terms of only being able to use the upper body

The other side argued that you should be disabled to compete

Then there was the third view where the level of disability should be considered

Eventually they were pressured out of the sport

Or simply find an equivalent rider (you?) and compete against their times

Garmin has a Virtual Partner that uses your stats to provide an opponent you can perform against
