It's just banter Noods. I'll be lucky to be ready for the ride, there'll be no shenanigans from me on the day, just a relaxed ride with good company.

Yep! Stepped on the scales Yesterday morning, after a weekend of sin... a shocking sight
Having to work hard this week to go back in the correct direction. Also, I have my second (and last of the year) TT on Saturday, so want to drop a few lbs for that

What say the rest?

That was my weekend, too !

TTs ?

You must be a much faster cyclist than me (not difficult) ; on the day, remind me to stay in your slipstream  .

I'm worried now, that we've got people turning up who do TTs.

Lol  I have only ever done one! This will be my second and I'm only doing it to be sociable (haven't long joined the club). Last club one of the year - something called the President's 10  I am assuming it's fancy dress and may turn up dressed as Abe Lincoln.

Hmm, Abe was a notably thin fella; and, I believe, a fine time trialist

My build more resembles that of Johnny Vegas.

Hmmm, never thought of that. Perhaps I should go as William Howard Taft (27thPresident of the United States)
Give it a rest, you skinny wretch!
Don't listen to him Pubby, Ducky is fast, fit, slim and, (compared to me!), young.

My mate Ossie got doored at the weekend and ended up in hospital with concussion and cuts and bruises. He also sprained his thumb badly which is currently immobilised in some contraption so I suppose his participation may be in some doubt. Further news after I visit the old wreck this morning.

I recce'd it on Streetview the other day  Looks worse than it actually will be. Max gradient is about 16% and not for long. Looks fine and a nice downhill stretch for a few miles, to follow

I, on the other hand, ackshully rode it the other day (not LD's entire route, but the bit of it between Rhayader and Machynlleth on the way up from Swansea - I had to be in Mach for work at the weekend), and I judge it to be a tough climb. I wasn't carrying a lot, as I'd managed to dump a bag in someone else's car the day before, but I had done a fair few miles already and I was on the bike with the standard road double (lowest gear 39/25). I would have sold my soul for a granny ring on the mountain road from Llanidloes to Mach. Which is, incidentally, spectacular, and the descent to Mach, on silky-smooth tarmac, is sensational. What gets to the legs is not only that there are three steep sections in quite close succession, the third of which is the steepest (presumably the 16% you mention), but that after the steep bits it feels like you ought to be at the top, and yet it just keeps dragging relentlessly upwards for miles, to well past a rather inviting looking boozer called The Star at Dylife. I'd come over The Black Mountain earlier, and even allowing for the fresher legs I'd rate that a much easier climb. Not that I wish to worry anyone, but if I can make this one I will be basing my bike choice on as grannytastic a gear as I can muster.
