I'm not going to say it is bullshit, because there is merit in context. However in the context of 99% of people on this forum, the best thing they could do, for their cycling, is cycling.

Also unless you race, where your discipline has a particular season, do you really have an off season?

I'll be riding until its impossible really, so all weather barring snow & if that happens, I'll exercise my face muscles by forcing them to strain to smile while I sit on the bus. I do a freewieght workout 3 times a week as well though, so that will carry on :training:

Still going to cycle at least two or three days a week providing no ice/snow, plus now that I've got back into jogging, I will do that a couple of times per week too so should keep ticking over ok. It's only for fun and general fitness anyway so missing a few days here and there won't matter too much.

Ride the bike on road and turbo and swim 4 x a week. Total of 8 hours exercise each week seems to suit me well.

I would run as well as I do enjoy it but arthritis of the right knee put paid to that.

The problem with winter riding is that as it is such a struggle it is easy to find an excuse not too and likewise the turbo that is boring. What has helped me is the motivation for an event or personal target so I am suffering like this for a reason not because I am a masochist. I was out this morning -6C with wind gusting to 30 km/h and snow flurries and you need a very good reason for this:smile:

Most of my racing next year is MTB based so riding that is a good start, turbo for the truly terrible or time crunched days and winter road bike is getting some tarmac time.

That link is far from the worst, rehashed badly written/informed articles aren't uncommon this time of year though.

As long as the weather's not too bad (perm 2 from 3 of wind, rain and cold) I can usually stir my stumps and get out at least once a week. Some places like the New Forest I only really visit during the winter, when it's a bit quieter.

I'll confess I quite enjoy turbo/roller sessions, probably because I'm a bit of a numbers geek.
