So why would a car insurer suddenly decide they didn't want to insure a particular model?

Because the business model is NOT to take risks, and, NOT to have claims, or, at least, to have as few as possible. ;)

Saw a piece about range rovers somewhere about how owners are stuck with cars that they have bought on finance but cannot get insurance for them even from the land rover`s own insurance services .Due to the rise in thefts the cars devalue so quickly the vehicle has lost so much in value they cant get enough to pay off the finance either so they are stuck with a car they cant insure or sell .

Massively over priced
Iffy build quality
unreliable electrics
fragile engines
Easy to steal
and you can’t insure them

but people still buy them

A subsidiary of LV declined to renew the insurance on a Ford Mustang (American import, none of that UK ecoboost nonsense) I owned a few years ago. I went to a different broker and they got insurance via the very same subsidiary. I kept the car until a few months before the insurance was due again and then sold it as I didn’t want to go through the same thing again.

Is there anyone else out there that will quote you on your Auris?r

Another point of possible concern is when you apply for insurance through another company, they ask if you have ever been turned down for or refused insurance..

If you have insurance declined is hat the same for getting a quote on a ridiculous car for instance ..
I don't think so, I think is someone more limited???🤔

I wohkd read it as the cwr being declined, not the owner.

But insurers quite literally make it up as they go along.

Surely Cats are quite nickable on most cars?
Jack - Angle Grinder - Gone!

Happened to our neighbour and as his drive has a slope they had no need for a jack. In day light in full view of the house across who quickly went out. Only to see them driving off they are so quick less then minute and it's was all over.

Why do people still buy them? Probably the celeb thing. You might know Doug DeMuro in the US for his YouTube car videos. He had his 2006 Rangie for some years bought with a 'bumper to bumper ' warranty which paid out more than the car is worth .

Unfortunately you’ve hit the nail on the head. They all want to appear as if they’re players, even if they can barely afford the lease.

About 15 years ago one of my business partners contributed himself and ran one as a company car, he had to switch his mortgage to interest only to make the payments and cover the company car tax. I took a Golf GTi instead and our company paid me the difference as it was way below my allowance.
