So why would a car insurer suddenly decide they didn't want to insure a particular model?
Because that's what insurance companies do.

Surely Cats are quite nickable on most cars?

Saw a piece about range rovers somewhere about how owners are stuck with cars that they have bought on finance but cannot get insurance for them even from the land rover`s own insurance services .Due to the rise in thefts the cars devalue so quickly the vehicle has lost so much in value they cant get enough to pay off the finance either so they are stuck with a car they cant insure or sell .
They depreciated like stones before all that too - couldn't happen to a more deserving demographic IMO.
Another point of possible concern is when you apply for insurance through another company, they ask if you have ever been turned down for or refused insurance..
Massively over priced
Iffy build quality
unreliable electrics
fragile engines
Easy to steal
and you can’t insure them
but people still buy them

Why do people still buy them? Probably the celeb thing. You might know Doug DeMuro in the US for his YouTube car videos. He had his 2006 Rangie for some years bought with a 'bumper to bumper ' warranty which paid out more than the car is worth .Massively over priced

No. The letter specifically states “you will not have to say that you have been refused insurance because this is our business decision”
