And "rough" is far too vague a term.
I reckon slipperiness and rock/gravel side are at least two significant factors you need to define. I'm just a roadie at heart; no doubt the proper MTB-types can educate me further!
(e.g. you can ride over quite big dry gravel on wiiiiide slick tyres. But a smooth road covered in cow-poo at 2'c might defeat the same tyres.)
