I am about to spend c£500 on a bike - to be used on C2C in September & for commuting / 40-50 mile day rides / occasional short tours thereafter. I'm torn between a budget tourer (Raleigh Royal or similar) and a decent fast hybrid (Trek 7.3FX or Sirrus Sport) Like the look and stance of the Hybrid but have a nagging feeling that the tourer would be the less fashionable but more practical & comfortable option
I currently own a 10 year old Mountain bike (Giant) and an older road bike (Raleigh Triathlon - purchased late 80's) that is road worthy but needs work before I would rely on it for three days . By far prefer the road bike of these two.
Any opinions on what would be my best option?
[by the way C2C will be tackled with 3 mates - all on Mountain bikes with slicks]
