They not only let Cav get caught in the second group but, when it was only 20 seconds down, Flecha, Eisel and Stannard were driving the first group along. Tactically inept. It was baffling to all , especially the Eurosport commentators.Their DS was quoted today (before the stage) as saying that the only thing he thinks they messed up was Stage 4 when they let Cav get caught behind the split in the bunch, which lost him (and Sky) the chance of an overall win. I don't think Sky were trying to work with a traditional train in this event and today was just bad luck for Cav, nothing else.
It would have been an ideal race to try out the train that they have been banging on about perfecting in Mallorca recently. If they didn't want to use a train it seems like a missed opportunity, unless they wanted to know that Cav doesn't need one.
