And how about Valverde trashing everyone in the prologue and then cruising to a second win yesterday ...?
Of course agree on that as well... but let's say Valverde results (now and last year) are in the arguable window of possible (at age 33), while Rebellin is 42...

Did they have any other option?
They could've ridden tempo until either someone attacked, or until they were 500m from the summit, then Porte would've had one, or even two team mates with him. I should think the result wouldn't be any different, because as you say, Porte simply isn't going to win this race, but to do exactly the same thing two days running for the same result, and give their adversaries a tow up the hill, and at the same time knacker the whole team, beggars belief.

What else can they do though? They're trying to chase a win with an underdog and their only real option is to try and break everyone else as a team. It's kind of a weird situation they find themselves in as a team in that in any race they enter they probably have close to the strongest overall team but if somehow their best rider isn't the best in the race the best rider in the race can just sit with them and let them do all the work.

Aye, and there's more important stuff than the Tour of Andalucia.

I think Sky simply see a lot of the early stuff as training sessions.
