Thanks for that. I'd be super-excited about this, but I got a bit carried away with the Giro last year, so I'll choose the route of cautious optimism given how Pooley lost a hatful on the Rionero Sannitico stage. Still, it seems like Abbott and Pooley got around a minute on Stevens and Johansson, and more than three minutes on the other big names. That's good going any way you look at it.

Sounds like Evelyn Stevens did better than had been suggested. Stage results:

01 Mara Abbott (United States) 2:41'30"
02 Emma Pooley (Cervélo)
03 Evelyn Stevens (HTC) +43"
04 Emma Johansson (RedSun) +1'57"
05 Sharon Laws (Cervélo) +3'05"
06 Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) +3'15"
07 Claudia Häusler (Cervélo)
08 Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (Vienne Futuroscope) +3'19"
09 Carla Ryan (Cervélo) +3'23"
10 Katheryn Curi Mattis (United States)
11 Adrie Visser (HTC)
12 Edwige Pitel (Michela Fanini) +3'25"
13 Chantal Blaak (Leontien)
14 Lizzie Armitstead (Cervélo)
15 Trixi Worrack (Noris)
16 Linda Villumsen (HTC)
17 Regina Bruins (Cervélo)
18 Annie van Vleuten (Nederland Bloeit)
19 Andrea Bosman (Leontien)
20 Loes Gunnewijk (Nederland Bloeit) +3'35"

GC:
01 Emma Pooley (Cervélo) 9:44'05"
02 Adrie Visser (HTC) +2'34"
03 Loes Gunnewijk (Nederland Bloeit) +3'09"
04 Emma Johansson (RedSun) +3'15"
05 Evelyn Stevens (HTC) +3'21"
06 Sharon Laws (Cervélo) +3'27"
07 Chantal Blaak (Leontien) +3'28"
08 Regina Bruins (Cervélo) +3'31"
09 Claudia Häusler (Cervélo) +3'35"
10 Mara Abbott (United States) +3'45"

Selected others:

11 Carla Ryan (Cervélo) +3'55"
12 Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) +3'57"
13 Annie van Vleuten (Nederland Bloeit) +4'09"
17 Trixi Worrack (Noris) +5'10"
18 Christel Ferrier-Bruneau +5'23"
19 Lizzie Armitstead (Cervélo) +5'54"
23 Vicki Whitelaw (Lotto) +8'49"
25 Ruth Corset (Tibco) +13'14"
30 Ludivine Henrion (RedSun) +17'22"
51 Tatiana Guderzo (Valdarno) +28'09"

Vos leads Pooley in the points, Pooley leads Abbott in the mountains and Blaak leads Vos in the young rider.

That's a really good lead for Pooley - to be honest I'd write off challenges from Visser, Gunnewijk and Johansson. Evie Stevie and Mara Abbott look like the biggest threats to a Cervélo victory.

I'm willing to bet that nugget of info was gleaned from tgsgirl on 606. I believe she has a psychic link to the gods of twitter.

I got it from Manel Lacambra's Twitter page, although I was indeed turned on to that a couple of days ago by one of the 606 users.

Katheryn Curi Mattis was the grand protaginst of the fifth stage of the Tour de l'Aude. The American went on the attack on the first climb of the day along with the first three finishers yesterday - Abbott, Pooley and Stevens. The quartet was later taken back by the group containing all the other favourites, but Mattis went again and succeeded in maintaning a sufficient advantage until the line. There were no major changes in the GC with Pooley holding on to top spot.

Results up here.

Another good day for Pooley. Katheryn Mattis has moved up to second with her stage win, which is quite a performance, and now sits 2'49" down. Otherwise it's mostly as you were, although Häusler and Abbott both lost 45 seconds and slip to 11th and 12th respectively.

GC:

01 Emma Pooley (Cervélo) 12:45'50"
02 Katheryn Mattis (United States) +2'49"
03 Emma Johansson (RedSun) +3'13"
04 Evelyn Stevens (HTC) +3'21"
05 Annemiek van Vleuten (Nederland Bloeit) +3'38"
06 Sharon Laws (Cervélo) +3'40"
07 Loes Gunnewijk (Nederland Bloeit) +3'51"
08 Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) +3'55"
09 Liesbet de Vocht (Nederland Bloeit) +3'58"
10 Regina Bruins (Cervélo) +4'13"
11 Claudia Häusler (Cervélo) +4'21"
12 Mara Abbott (United States) +4'29"

Selected others:

14 Trixi Worrack (Noris) +5'52"
15 Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (Vienne Futuroscope) +6'05"
17 Vicki Whitelaw (Lotto) +9'31"
18 Carla Ryan (Cervélo) +10'13"

Carla Ryan is notable for having had quite a nasty fall today, will a bloodied knee and nose. She came in 21st on the stage which is gutsy going.

I especially hate the wait between the first bursts of news about the stage victor/leader's jersey and the release of detailed results.

Cicloweb says it was done from another breakaway. You could guess as much from the fact that Martisova came second.
