Today we know who the GC winner is and the ride in should be a formality from that point of view but who will win the sprint up the Champs-Élysées. I hope it is another winning performance by Cav but without doubt there will be others trying to stop that happening. If Cav does get it then he will retain the Green Jersey, which is not so prestigious as the yellow one but it's not so far behind. I guess that most of the members that follow this racing forum will be sat in front of the Television set this afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes but some of us might just watch the 1 hour highlights.
I do hope the TV people move the travelling airbourne camera rig to a new location for this year.

I've not studied the stats for green, but apart from Cav crashing out or having a mech, Rojas would have to win the sprint several places in front of Cav I suppose.

what would have to happen for Cav not to take green?

Rojas has to gain more than 15 points over Cav in today's race.

You can look up how points are awarded (see both "flat" stage finish and intermediate sprint in the table here) and potentially deducted here.

It is by no means a foregone conclusion that Cav will keep the green, but he did win the stage in both 2009 and 2010.

ps rules are in English half way down the document

As long as Cav doesn't crash out and finishes next to Rojas he will win it. But of course Cav wants to win the stage, so there will be no holding back.

I hope he gets it as my opinion of him has changed and I quite like the guy now

Is there an intermediate sprint on the final stage? I didn't think there was.

It appears that the intermediate sprint is just after the 3rd lap of the Champs.

Prudhomme sums up......

“We’ve had three tremendously rich weeks of emotions, joys, tears, passion and enthusiasm,” Prudhomme surmised. “We also have a winner who is a great rider from March to October. Cadel Evans has been the world champion and the winner of the Flèche Wallonne. He has honoured this Tour de France from start to finish. He was just behind Philippe Gilbert on stage 1 at the Mont des Alouettes. For months, I repeated that the Mûr-de-Bretagne [stage 4] was made for the leaders. I didn’t imagine that it would crown the eventual winner of the Tour de France. I’m delighted for Cadel. This time he hasn’t given up his chance. This Tour is a logical reward for his long and beautiful career.”

Cav sounded and looked pretty nervous at the start and who can blame him!

Winning the intermediate sprint would settle the nerves.
