and you're right, replica team wear is good quality, i doubt i could do more than a few miles withoot my butt screaming without my padded bib shorts - i have also just ordered the movistar kit cos it looks smashing and i fancy being a member of there team as well, i may have gone too far and ordered the socks as well

What's wrong with either?

Nothing at all. Just drawing a comparison.

I think team kit is pretty good value for money. Compare my Liquigas jersey with a standard Altura one. Altura will run a slightly less quality jersey for the same price for almost the whole of the products "life" (seems to be 18 months to 3 years on some I've looked at). The team one will drop right down in price after the main Tours have finished. So in the next 2-3 weeks you might see a 45 quid TDF jersey drop down to 30.

It happens in all sports, just look at the number of people digging tennis raquets out during Wimbledon.

If it gets a few new people converted to whatever sport they try then all good in my opinion.

I bet cycle shops see their business booming when the TDF is on.

One of my LBS has a display of road bikes in the window whereas normally it's MTB's but I expect post-tour it will be back to MTB's again.

Mainly it's the summer weather (I should say, the expected summer weather) rather than the Tour that brings people into the bike shops and then out on their new bikes.

Can't believe the extra amount of bodies I see on my usual 3 times weekly route. Team lycra seems compulsory...I almost feel like leaving the bike in the shed for 3 weeks while these part timers get over themselves.

great to see more people out, the more the merrier.

You are right about the value too.

Personally I think anything that makes cycling more popular in the UK has to be a good thing. Look to France, Italy, Holland, Belgium etc and see how far there is yet to go.

C'mon who's willing to own up that they only wear the team kit that matches their ride. Not guilty here as my only team jersey has theTrek logo but my bike is a crappy Specialized hybrid.

I may get a HTC Highroad jersey, I have a specialized bike and a HTC smart phone, win win, also I am a fan of Cav as his style is similar to mine (albeit much much better)

Surely the more people who get experience of cycling on the road the more people will look out for, and be aware of cyclists when they get in their cars and drive.

I'll own up to it. I ride an orbea and wear orbea team kit. Its a nice kit and was actually my fathers day present. Looking at getting another kit too. Dunno which one though.

You sound like a frustrated wannabe roadie.

If you ask me nothing looks better than team kit on the appropriate bike, just wish I had the pennies

Erm... yep!

Sounds like you need a Trek bike!
