Here's a fun statistic: Tadej Pogacar leads the best young rider competition of the Tour de France for the 53rd consecutive day.
(according to letour.fr)

Bonkers.

And as he was born in Sept 98 that means, by my calculation, he'll turn 26 in Sept 2024 so he'll be eligible next year as well.

I think it makes a bit of a mockery of the white jersey concept actually.
Forget about the increasingly irrelevant white jersey.
Who has worn the Yellow Jersey the most days ever?

I agree, in recent years the "young rider" category has been essentially worthless. I'd like to see it withdrawn in all the Grand Tours and instead have something like a jersey for the best placed rider doing his first Tour/Giro/Vuelta

How many debutants are there each year, I wonder. Would there be a big enough pool? I like the idea though.

Anyone would think it was a predictable sprint stage as we have nothing better to talk about.

The lowest in general classification Tadej Pogacar has ever been at ANY stage of a Tour De France is 17th after the 1st stage of the 2020 race and he has only spent a total of 2 days outside the top 10 the last time being stage 7 of the 2020 race (16th)
He hasn’t been outside the Top 5 of general classification since stage 4 of the 2021 race.
Is there a jersey for that 😁

Are you watching the race?

It's a flat stage, there could be a sprint finish, so a lot of talk of the Cav getting the most stage wins record, but this was not Eddy Merckx's greatest achievement.

Comparing Eddy Merckx to Mark Cavendish is a bit silly to me.
No, I'm reading - and replying to - THIS THREAD! Hence you seemed to be commenting on Cav's post about Cofidis!!!

p.s. yes of course Merckx was the "greater" bike racer, taken in the round. But we can still get excited about the stage wins record, okay?!?

Did anyone guess?

The rider who has worn the yellow jersey the most days is Eddy Merckx, who wore it 96 days.

I don't have records but I'm going guess that I may have worn my yellow winter jersey from Aldi (purchased about 2013/14 ish) a similar number of times, maybe more. Although I bought two of them because they were cheap so that may complicate things.

Without seeking the obvious response, what is Pichon doing up there with Powless? Powless is taking all the KOM points (naturally), and will then take it easy when the final categorised climb is complete with just less than half of the stage to go. Pichon will then be left on his own (if he wishes) with no hope of holding off the peleton, just 3 KOM points for the day, and a few sprinters points which won't get him anywhere near the lead in the competition.

I guess he has his time in the spotlight, and you can't get to chose who goes with you in the break, but why?

Although being French, he is a shoe-in for getting the combativity prize for the day. I guess that is worth it.

You mean like they used to ?
The rules between 1975-’83 or ‘83-’86 might be a suitable compromise (a pro for 3 years or fewer or in their first Tour).
Never really think about it to be honest, the jerseys that is,id leave them as they are.Dont even go there on the combativity award 😁

Seeing that we're wittering aimlessly and Cav has been mentioned: Quiz question. When did Mark Cavendish wih the combativity award in the TdF and get to wear a red number?
