Last Friday evening as I was leaving work, I noticed a slight noise from the rear wheel. It turned out to be a bleb in the tyre. Hmmm, should I reduce the pressure slightly? Nar, don't bother. 150 yards down the road, an almighty bang as it blew out (the second time this has happened with Panaracer Paselas - I shan't buy any more of them!). With panniers loaded with goodies from our office Children in Need foodstall, I trudged across town to the LBS, knowing full well that it would be closed when I got there. Sure enough, five minutes after closing time. But there were still lights on and staff inside! Would they take pity and sell me a new tyre? I stood there with my best attempt at an expression of abject misery, hoping someone would notice. Sure enough one of the lads came and opened the door and I explained my predicament. They didn't just sell me a new tyre, they invited me into the shop and fitted it - not an enviable task considering the way I'd neglected basic maintenance like scraping the accumulated crud off the chain/derailleur etc., plus the fact that I'd never dared to cold-set the 30+ year old frame, so it needs springing to accept the 130mm OLN hub.
So a big thumbs-up to Freewheel, Goose Gate, Nottingham.

Jake, I'd like to think I did better than that. I'd made a batch of shortbread to sell for Children in Need, and they went like hot wotsits, so I made some more at the weekend and took it to the LBS this lunchtime.
