When i'm out on my own i always finds it helps to think of myself as someone like Kiriyienka pulling along the whole peloton.

When climbing a particularily gruesome hill I have been known to say out loud 'Earn this *insert tour climbing jersey colour* jersey'

i.e. Earn this Blue jersey - the shirt from the Giro

I'm only really sure about tour leaders shirts and i don't suit yellow or pink.

I know many people thing this a dirty word...so I'll whisper...have you tried Strava?

It took me about a year before I was comfortable to cycle commute for all four of my 12hr night shifts (10 miles each way). About 6 months ago I started to wear an Ipod (I know  but it is something I am comfortable with as a high mileage/high volume driver). The first time I cycled with music was like having a massive adrenalin overdose injected. I rode 8 miles slightly uphill at an ave of around 20mph and was gasping for breath when I got home but not wanting to stop!!! This was after riding 60+ miles in rain and headwind (but without music).

Strava isn't the only performance enhancing additive.....

I would love to get one of those computor thingys but just cannot afford anything like that, and i don't have mobile phone either, as for music, i know it helps (as an ex fitness instructor !!!!) but i'd be scared i wouldnt hear the traffic.
Going to nice day so will take things slowly and just poodle along !!! be interesting to see how far i get, will also take camera for anything interesting xxx
