I am a new boy here but it occurs to me that their are far too many posts so why not wipe the slate clean and just start again. Commute for instance has 668 posts so who on earth is going to wade through that lot?

You don't wade through all of them, but some of them will come up if you search. There are some pearls of wisdom hidden in those dusty archives;)

It's a great archive, you never know what you are going to 'need to know' in the future.
Just click on 'mark forum read' and then when you revisit click 'new posts'.
Scan through the list to see what takes your fancy and go from there.

I've been here under a month. With the huge threads I picked a page about 5 from the latest and read from their to get the gist, then just clicked to mark everything as read and now haunt the New Posts tab to find stuff with the Alerts flag showing me the other bits I'm kind of interested in. Works for me.

Hi Oaklegs, :welcome: to the forum.
I subscribe to many forums and have yet to find one where a thread remains on topic for more than 4 postings,:cursing: this can be annoying when the topic is an important one yet there is always someone who has to post with a meaningless bit of chitty chat totally off topic, that's where in my opinion a moderator should step in.:gun:

Moderators don't have time to read every post, Mr Summerdays already things I'm on too long as it is. If there is something you object to, hit the Report button and we will take a look, though I like the fact that the forum has a relaxed feel to it. It wouldn't be as welcoming and friendly place to be if we had a strict must stay on topic rule, (didn't that partially cause another forum to implode?)

Instead of wiping the slate clean, why not lock the forum and just keep it as an archive? I'm pretty sure that everything that can be said has been said.

Sounds like an encyclopaedia would suit your needs more than a forum.
