A gentlemanly pootler, these days

Glorious day in the South London/Kent hinterland, as alluded to earlier, if surprisingly breezy.

A perfect day for a blat over the switchbacks of the North Downs, taking in a few challenging hills along the way.

And yet... I really could not be stuffed. The thought of flogging myself up Sundridge Hill and getting covered in sloppy mulch and cow slurry simply did not appeal one jot.

So, I rode round the estate near where I live, round and round like a little kid on his Chopper. Then I thought I'd better put a climb in, so I rode out to Hayes and back up the fearful Col Du Pickhurst (so fearful, in fact, I went up on the big ring with cogs in hand).

Still got over 30 miles in, like :okay:

25 knot winds at Princetown on Dartmoor this morning so above my threshold and the bike stayed in the car. Abided by the maxim/proverb that discretion is the better part of valour.

set off out at 6am this morning, was quite foggy, the higher I got the thicker the fog got so abandoned my ride and was home for 7am. Too dangerous as far as I am concerned, visibility down to roughly fifteen to twenty feet and having to slow right down and almost wait for acknowledgment from car drivers to say they had seen me, not ideal conditions.
I can't enjoy my ride when I am constantly worried about other road users being able to see me.
You did the right thing. I won't ever set off, if there's thick fog, ice, or risk of ice. It's just not worth the risk:thumbsup:

Good call aborting fog is nasty ! My other hobby is sea fishing , it seems whenever its calm its foggy , we have radar on our boat but still don't like it & normally wait for it to lift before setting off
