except my cycling shoes with velcro straps that catch on the toe-straps and knobbly soles that catch on the rat-traps. Fine with steel-toe cap boots though.

Steel toe capped boots are excellent with toe clips, most of them have very stiff soles, makes them almost as good as cycling shoes, they work even better If you use double straps.

just an opinion... binning mine was one of the best things i ever did.

I take it you couldn't get on with them? I've been using them for over twenty five years and they took a little bit of getting used to when I first started.

no, had em for years and years on my racer and MTB... it was only when they were gone i realised i didn't need them in the first place, and that my foot stayed perfectly on the pedal without them.

I've got ones like the pic guitarpete247 posted on my Horizon, and although it only gets used occasionally, they are fine as they're very easy to get your feet in and out of. Had smaller ones with straps on my hybrid for a while and I really didn't like them. Got rid of them and I'm much more comfortable without them.

After 30 years cycling on flats alone I've tried these plastic toe clips over the last couple of weeks. Easy enough to use but I don't really feel the benefit, if anything I think they're giving me some knee pain! I don't think having my feet fixed works for me.
